The value of recreation in a landscape depends on its natural potential (i.e., the attractiveness of the landscape), as well as the its accessibility and the overall level of demand (e.g. the number of visitors in the region). In this network, we combine three factors that were defined by local stakeholders in the mountain region as important for landscape attractiveness: the topographic variability (heterogeneous terrain with prominent peaks), remoteness, and probability of observing wildlife.

On the other side, the demand for recreation occurs in accessible areas (on hiking paths or near roads) and is higher when the number of visitors is high.
